FCWV Ceramic Wheel Valve

KOWOV manufactures the FCWV ceramic wheel valve for chemical fibre and pulp and paper lines whose media carry long solids or fibres that need cutting. It closes with two slotted ceramic discs that turn against each other, and it is fully ceramic-lined: the medium does not reach corrosive metal, including the stem, and the flow path has no dead space

Design and construction

  • Two slotted ceramic discs turn against each other, so the core carries compressive load, whereas a ball core carries shear
  • Cuts foreign matter in the flow. In a torque-wrench test it sheared a 4 mm iron wire; this illustrates its cutting ability and is not an acceptance criterion
  • Fully ceramic-lined, so the medium does not touch corrosive metal, including the stem
  • No dead space in the flow path
  • The valve body does not raise an alarm by itself. With the actuator and sensors fitted for the project, the system can give a warning if metal parts melt or fail

Applications

  • Chemical fibre and pulp and paper lines whose media carry long solids or fibres that need cutting
  • Each duty is assessed, and the valve configured, for the project
